Lot clearing for new home

When you buy a property to develop into a new home, the first step of any project is to begin by hiring a land clearing company. Land Clearing is the essential first step in building a property. However, when hiring for land clearing, make sure to use a company that is proficient in clearing for new builds, because the way and style of clearing differ based on what the intention of clearing is.

What is the difference between Land Clearing, Excavating, and Grading?

  1. Land Clearing: This is the process of removing vegetation that is already grown on the property. This is going to be the first step for most clearing projects.
  2. Excavating: This is for the lower portion; it is the process of moving dirt around, digging below ground level, and clearing for trenches, foundations, and even ponds.
  3. Grading: This is correcting or shaping the current ground for either a flatter/smoother appearance, to prevent or stop elevation, or help with proper drainage.

For Lot Clearing for a new home, often all three are used. First, if there is existing vegetation, then this needs to be cleared, usually by way of a forestry mulcher or bulldozer. Second, excavating needs to be done to move dirt around to put in the foundation and provide the correct drainage throughout the property. Lastly, grading is often used to get the rest of the property in the correct shape and look needed for the new home.

What is normally cleared for a New Home?

  1. Trees
  2. Brush
  3. Stumps
  4. Rocks
  5. Existing Debris
How much of the Lot has to be cleared?

There are many parts to a new home. Clearing must be done for the base of the new home, the driveway or access point, septic field, utility lines, construction access, and possibly yard space if needed.

What happens to trees you may want to keep?

We can provide selective clearing if you mark certain larger trees you want to keep after clearing, as long as they are not in the way of structures that need to be built. However, if there is an area not part of the project or selective mature trees you wish to keep, we will discuss all of this before the start of the project.
